This year we are planing on using mecanums with upsidedown ramps in front of them to help push the robot over the wall.
We're leaning toward a 6 wheel (or maybe even 8 - offsetting the fronts and rears) design. Not sure of what wheel type to use, I'm thinking along the lines of a soft rubber or pnuematic tire.
We are thinking to use 8" Pneumatic wheels from andymark. Just have to decide on the center drop, 1/8" or 1/4". Any Thoughts or experiences with pneumatics?
We don't see the advantage of mecanum wheels considering the barrier. Even with the upside-down ramps (which would be tricky anyways because of the bumpers), the jolt of going over the barrier in such an ungainly might be too much for the robot.
With the ramps under it it's ok but without them the drop is too high and our gearboxes fell off. Also I don't know how long the soft rubber tires will not be completely chewed up.
